Theme and Description

Originally designed for UU Cub Scouts, this workbook can be used by girls or boys, in or out of scouting, with a helping parent or teacher. Through various activities, children learn about self, family, religious community, and Unitarian Universalism. Upon completion of the program, children are eligible to receive an emblem and certificate from the Youth Office of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Goals for Participants

To relate personal feelings, experiences, and family life to the religious community
To learn more about their religious community's values and to relate those values to their family life
To learn about Unitarian Universalism
If desired, to earn the Cub Scout religious emblem.

Age Range Ages 7 to 11

Size of Group A child uses the workbook individually, supervised by an adult

Space Requirements None

Number of Sessions 28 pages of activities

Length of Sessions Each activity takes 10 to 30 minutes with discussion

Leader Training Parent or teacher needs no training

Strengths

Limitation May be a little "young" for the older children in the age range

Adaptability

Useful in very small church schools with a range of ages
Can be used in a group setting as well as by individuals (each participant needs his or her own copy of the workbook)
Although designed for Cub Scouts, may be used with any girls or boys of this age.
