Theme and Description Enables children to claim their religious identity as Unitarian Universalists. Arranged in 7 units based on the UU Principles and Purposes.

Goals for Participants

To know and articulate their own religious faith
To develop a sense of pride in their religious identity
To learn about some special present and past Unitarian Universalists
To build an understanding of the uniqueness of their church community
To explore other religious perspectives.

Space Requirements A classroom large enough for the group, allowing space for activities and discussions

Number of Sessions 26

Length of Sessions Approximately 1 hour

Leader Training Knowledge of Unitarian Universalism and an understanding of and experience in teaching this age level are necessary.

Leader Preparation 2 to 3 hours per session

Strengths

Addresses the Unitarian Universalist Principles and Purposes in age appropriate language
Helps children discover and articulate what they do believe, rather than what they don't believe.

Limitation

Leaves out some helpful information for leaders, such as suggested length of sessions, lyrics for songs, etc.
Is geared to a younger age range, so leaders may need to find materials more appropriate for older children.

Adaptability Can be used with a wide age range, which is especially useful in small religious education programs.

Unitarian Universalist Values Each of the Unitarian Universalist Principles and Purposes is explicitly stated and addressed.
